The Emerald Trail

The Rail Yard District is undergoing environmental and infrastructure improvements, including the restoration of McCoys Creek and its integration into the Emerald Trail. The Emerald Trail is a transformative 30-mile network of biking and walking paths that will link Downtown Jacksonville to 14 historic neighborhoods. Several of those neighborhoods - including Robinson’s Addition, Mixon Town, and New Town- as well as the McCoys Creek corridor itself, are located within the Rail Yard District.

S-Line Rail Trail &

the emerald Trail

The S-Line is a historic rail corridor that cuts directly through the Rail Yard District, tracing the same industrial pathways that once powered the city’s freight and manufacturing economy. In 2008 it became Jacksonville’s first dedicated urban trail, which had been an abandoned length of CSX railroad Right-of-Way. Today, this corridor is part of the Emerald Trail, creating a continuous greenway that links the Rail Yard District to downtown, McCoys Creek, and several surrounding historic neighborhoods. As it moves through the district, the S-Line weaves past warehouses, rail infrastructure, and legacy industrial sites - preserving the area’s character while opening new opportunities for recreation, connectivity, and revitalization.
